Upper Berkeley Street
London, W1H
This in-house development by vPPR Architects was to gain planning for the upgrade of an old hotel to serviced apartments. The hotel was very faded and in bad repair. The project will restore the historic building interior with sensitive insertions of bathroom and kitchenette pods.
LOCATION: Marble Arch, London, UK
TYPE: Serviced apartments
GROSS INTERNAL AREA: 331m2
The legibility of the original plan form and historic room volumes will be improved by the removal and reorganisation of modern partitions. Bathrooms and storage will be concealed within a 1.1m deep timber cupboard units set at the edge of the room.
These will stop short of the ceiling in order for the original plan form to be read and for the cornicing to run fully around the edge of the room.
The new pods will stand clear of any existing door architraves and will scribe around any surviving original or 19th century skirtings and cornices.
All other bedroom furniture will be low in height allowing the space to be enjoyed in its original form.
